Eats, Sleeps & Essentials for a Recharging Escape
After a non-stop start to the year, Ash and I slipped away to Bali in April for 9 nights of rest, relaxation and just enough adventure to feel alive (but not exhausted). We based ourselves in Seminyak — close to the action but easy to retreat from it too.
This trip was all about recharging: slow mornings, warm evenings, beach sunsets, pool dips, and zero alarms. Here's a little peek into what we packed, where we stayed, what we ate — and a few tips to make your own Bali escape even smoother.
Where We Stayed: Simple Luxury in Seminyak
We checked into Kumala Pantai, a serene hotel with beautifully kept grounds, two inviting pools, and a relaxed, boutique feel. It was super comfortable, clean, and had the perfect balance of affordability and style — just how we like it.
We’re big believers in luxury on a budget, and this stay delivered.
Favourite Eats & Sunset Spots
Motel Mexicola is our go-to for a reason. Tacos, margaritas and that chaotic, neon-lit party energy that somehow always leaves us smiling. We happened to be there for their 10th anniversary celebration — a full themed wedding party! Think glitter, dancing, flowing tequila, and serious good vibes. Unmissable if you want one fun night out.
For something more low key, we loved the simple beach bars at Double Six Beach. Pull up a beanbag, order a cold drink, and watch the sun melt into the ocean while planes land overhead. Pure bliss.
Spa Bliss & Photo Memories
We treated ourselves to a full couples’ spa session — think massage, body scrub and even a mani-pedi for me (heaven!). Bali does this kind of thing so well, and at prices that are a fraction of what we’d pay at home.
This trip was also extra special because our adult son joined us — so we booked a professional photo shoot to capture a few family memories. For a really reasonable price, we now have some gorgeous snaps to treasure. Our Photographer was Mang Tik Photography Bali.
What We Packed (And What You Should Too)
Bali in April is balmy, beautiful and very warm — so think lightweight, breathable outfits. I packed:
Floaty dresses
Linen sets
Slides and one pair of comfy walking sandals
A straw hat and SPF 50 Sunscreen (Sunscreen is surprisingly expensive in Bali, and I have a ginger husband!)
Swimwear x multiple (because, pools!)
A small crossbody bag for evenings
Quick Tips for a Smooth Arrival
Book a hotel transfer. Trust me — the airport can be chaotic after a long flight, and having someone holding a sign with your name is worth every cent.
If you’re sensitive to noise or smell, keep a small pack of tissues, sanitiser, and headphones handy — arrival can be a sensory shock.
Consider a local photographer for beautiful memories — especially if, like us, it’s a rare moment to have your grown-up kid join you!
Final Thoughts
This wasn’t a big “bucket list” trip. It was a little break, a reset. And sometimes, those are the best kind. We left feeling lighter, more connected, and — let’s be honest — already thinking about when we can go back.
If you're planning your own Bali escape and want something chilled but charming, Seminyak is a great base. Pack light, book that transfer, say yes to the margaritas — and don’t forget your SPF.
Love,
